Meditation postures are very scientific beyond our imagination. Recently, in my 'silence for seeking hour' it instantaneously occurred to me something interesting. Go through the following images and see yourself..
Some pictures on how dish antennas look:
Some key observations:
How it works? Principle in simple..
Now what is it got to do with meditation?
In your lotus posture (also called receptive/open-minded mode like that of a lotus flower) with spine erect and head slightly tilt upward, you indeed act as a similar antenna to absorb the cosmic content.
Now, any idea what lies in the focal point of your brain? Continue..
And there you are! Exactly at the focal point of your skull (acting like the parabolic dish antenna) it is the pituitary gland which enhances the level of perception one has through continuous sadhana. On complete excitation this opens up multiple dimensions within you. Hence, this is also called the 'third eye' (since it enhances your perception totally). Google for more benefits on pituitary glands functioning both physically and spiritually...
Something to ponder:
If a man's intellect / common-sense is a direct benefit of how 'homo sapiens evolved in keeping their spine straight' by using only two limbs to walk making the antenna take in signals :), imagine what could be in-store if they *sensitize the spine more* through meditation/yoga?
On concluding note, starting from the atom to the universe, everything is connected very deeply in the way it functions & acts on certain fundamental principles/models (only then it works - either natural or man-made one). Perceive them to see how wonderful it is.
